Are you sprinting or running a marathon?

Do you feel like some things are moving at a breakneck speed while other things are moving at a snail’s pace? Or that the things that need to be moving faster just aren’t? It’s all very muddled.

Here’s the thing, some work needs to move quickly and efficiently, while other things will take more time, and that’s ok. The key is to be intentional and transparent about those expectations with your team.

So your Manager Minute today is to make two lists for next week: “Move Fast” and “Take one step”

For the “Move Fast” list, identify the things work that need to move quickly, who needs to work on them, and what needs to be communicated in order for it to be done well.

For the “Take One Step” list, identify the projects that need some progress to be made and what that needs to be. Is it a meeting with certain stakeholders? A draft of a plan? The next step of partner outreach? Just take that step and check it off the list.

Your work to balance internal operations, supporting employees, and navigating external circumstances will put this to the test. But if you are clear about what needs to “Move Fast” and where you can “Take One Step” then you will be able to be intentional and clear about your work.

So, what’s one step you’ll take?
